90 years ago, Dec 4 1932, brutal rioting broke out as hundreds of striking tree pruners organized by the Communist Party’s Cannery & Agricultural Workers’ Industrial Union marched to the Vacaville Library to hold a mass meeting about police brutality against strikers

The next day, masked vigilantes stormed the jail where the 12 arrested strikers were held; they kidnapped six of the prisoners and beat them, shaving their hair, painting their faces red, and driving them out of town on foot. The strike was broken the following month
