53 years ago, January 11 1971, 150 anti-war hecklers shut down a speech by former Ambassador to South Vietnam Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. at Stanford University. The University used the incident as a pretext to suspend professor Bruce Franklin, a leader of the Maoist group Venceremos

Students shouted “fascist pig,” “oink oink,” and “power to the people,” at Lodge, prompting to him to exclaim, “Shouting obscenities is not free speech!” before leaving the stage. Venceremos members later stated: “We hope he can appreciate that he still has his life”
