50 years ago, June 2 1974, 350 Berkeley radicals rallied in Ho Chi Minh Park (Willard Park) to honor the slain members of the Symbionese Liberation Army who died that May during a police siege of their Los Angeles hideout. Connections made at the rally helped the SLA to regroup

The rally was organized by Kathy Soliah, a friend of slain SLA member Angela Atwood, who would go on to become an active member of the group. It was held about three blocks from the Berkeley apartment that Patty Hearst had been kidnapped from in February https://t.co/Z3KevYExxm

United Prisoners Union leader Popeye Jackson spoke at the rally, denouncing the “murder” of the SLA militants. One year later, Jackson himself would be murdered by members of Tribal Thumb, a group with a number of strange similarities to the SLA https://t.co/qVxzfog7n0
