49 years ago, March 10 1975, the Frente de Liberacion Chicano (Chicano Liberation Front) committed a series of bombings against the Safeway corporation in in San Francisco, San Jose, and Piedmont in retaliation for their “non-recognition of the United Farm Workers of America”

Bombs exploded at a Safeway in San Jose, the Del Monte Foods headquarters in San Francisco, and a Bank of America in Piedmont, causing a total of $10,000 in damage. In 1975, the Bay Area saw a bombing roughly once every 7 days

The CLF carried out a number of bombings on the west coast in the 1970s, and claimed responsibility for the 1974 assassination of Union City Chief of Police William McCann, for which three members of the Brown Berets were arrested in 1981 https://t.co/6ENuVGvWoa

@awinston Tbc, a Bank of America was bombed in Piedmont, not a supermarket (but the BoA bombing was part of a campaign against Safeway). A supermarket was bombed in San Jose. Difficult to be precise about all this in the length of a tweet!

@awinston I’m glad you asked because there was a mix-up in our notes! A BoA was not bombed in Piedmont, the Wells Fargo on Highland was. (And yes, it’s still there). A device was planted at a BoA in Hayward - it didn’t go off
