40 years ago, May 12 1984, hundreds of people gathered and marched through the Mission at the Processed World magazine organized “End of the World’s Fair,” a satirical anti-war event planned to coincide with the beginning of the World’s Fair in New Orleans

Political organizations like the anti-nuke Livermore Action Group were joined by ironic groups like “the National Association of Grenade Owners” & “Husbands’ Auxiliary of Ladies Against Women.” Attendees were asked to come “as their vision of the end of the world”

Like Processed World’s “Silicon Valley Tours” the previous month, organizers of the fair used satire and political theater to call attention to the heavy presence of the military industry in the Bay Area https://t.co/uVLbZ8sjHH
