110 years ago, March 25 1914, Indian revolutionary Lala Hardayal was arrested in San Francisco for violating the Anarchist Exclusion Act of 1903. He fled to Switzerland after posting bail

Hardayal came to California in 1911. After serving as secretary of the local IWW branch, Dayal founded an anarchist organization called Fraternity of the Red Flag, established a radical school in Hayward called the Bakunin Institute, and organized Punjabi farm workers in Stockton

During this period he also co-founded the Ghadar Party, an Indian revolutionary organization that advocated overthrowing British colonialism by force, and which played an important role in the Indian Independence Movement. Pictured here is their San Francisco headquarters
