10 years ago, April 1 2014, a couple dozen activists blocked a private Google shuttle in the Mission ahead of a city vote on charging tech companies for using public bus stops. Organizers made several demands including free MUNI for all and a moratorium on no-fault evictions
Several bus blockades occurred in 2013-2014, many coordinated by Heart of the City, an affinity group that organized around tenant struggles and performed “anti-gentrification spectacles” to combat tech fueled real estate speculation and displacement in the Bay
